“The serious aspects of class culture are of cial and authoritarian; they are combined with violence, prohibitions, limitations, and always contain an element of fear and of intimidation...Laughter, on the other hand, overcomes fear, for it knows no inhibitions, no limitations.” Bakhtin

The fillm is exploring the political and social potential of the body, its capacity of overturning our habitual course and to change the order of things (through performance, gestures, dance, laughter). Filmed in different bars/clubs in Berlin, it will move between documentation, ction, observation and interview. I am here focusing on the bar/club as an alternative social space, a political space, a place for unexpected meetings and situations. The fillm is interested in political acts of transgression (identities, bounderies, borders) and in queer and collective bodies and images that seek to challenge normality. By referring to the term Carnivalesque, coined by the Russian philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin, the lm embraces a mode that subverts and liberates the assumptions of the dominant style or atmosphere through humor and chaos, a world upside-down, where ideas and truths are endlessly tested and contested. Through this, the lm aspires to question dominant normative power relations, as well as exploring the body ́s potential of overturning the estab- lished order.
